Started weaving rug for my bathroom

My bathroom has the weirdest wall paper and a chandelier.......
Go figure. Anyway - the rest of it has white tiles. I painted the cabinet and door already red because I didn't like the sterile white which surrounded me. But also the bathroom floor is white tile.
So I decided to try to create also a wacky rug which might match the crazy wallpaper.
I think I am off to a good start. I tied on to my monksbelt warp which was on my loom.

what I have been doing

other then finishing my last pieces. .....
I wove other bamboo /Habu blinds for the living room which came out very nice. Need to show a picture of them hanging.....This time I measured correctly and they are long enough.

I finish the piece I wove over Thanksgiving.
At first I cut off the left over warp then I attached it again as fringes. Looks good, need to take pictures for my website.......

Here you see the back, on the sides the plastic is hanging out.

finished bamboo curtains hanging in my breakfast area

Enclosed you see my handwoven blinds. I love how they look. The second one is not long enough. But really no big deal because it hangs in front of the window which we open all the time.
The room does look darker, so I might want to roll them up if I want light. But for most times they are perfect.

Thanksgiving Weaving

This year I had the fortune to stay by myself and weave for several days. It is nice to think thru a project and then execute it all in one setting.
This did not mean that there weren't many mistakes, I can't tell how often I open up colors because they didn't look right. So here is the outcome.
Still have to do something to all the plastic ends and sew it in, so that it can hang.
This piece is 3 ft x 6 ft, quite big. Cotton warp and mostly Wall Street Joutnals are the warp.

next bamboo blinds with habu warp

Very nice to weave with. Love the way the fiber reacts with each other.
The warp is mostly  Habu kakishibu cotton viscose with a bit of printed cotton gima.
Lovely fiber. Highly recommend it.

Monksbelt with plastic and sticks

Love the way the plastic behaves in this weave structure. The sticks in between make it sturdy.
At first I decicded only to use beige plastic in between, but the colors one give it life.

Finished Window blinds

right now they are still rolled up - need to hang them in the window - maybe in a few weeks
Love the way they came up. They are for two windows.

Halloween Shawl

I wanted to weave another stick weaving with strong colors and fell in love with these color blocks. But guess what? They did not work with the sticks. I wove first a few inches with a black warp and realized, it was too strong. By the way the blue is actually purple. The colors in the weft are kind of saturated. So I found some of my hand spun grey bamboo which softens the colors down and gives it a bit of irregularity thru the home spun.
It does remind me of Halloween every time I look and work on it. Oh well, maybe the proper thing to weave in later part of October.

Waste not want not

This is true for me and my obsession with plastic wrappers from newspapers for weaving.
I have huge bags full of yellow, red and blue wrappers but then there are all these very pale looking ones. They have to be sorted too because when you use them in weaving their colors start to pop out.
So while the second presidential debate went on, I thought this is a good time to clean up my plastic bags. I am happy to report they are now neatly stacked in big containers in the guest bedroom till I start weaving with them. Aren't they lovely?

Plain Weave with Churro Wool

Churro wool
I had forgotten how nice and easy it is to weave with wool. This shawl is warp and weft with churro wool and New Mexico, hand spun and hand dyed. A true privilege to work with. I wove 24 inches in an hour last night. Had to stop myself.
Many years ago I read the book of the 3 weavers who came to New Mexico and started working with this particular wool of these sheep again. I loved the book, how they took charge of their lives and just mastered it.
This yarn was purchased at Tierra Wools.

stitching adds definition to my piece

This is the blue piece with yellow plastic liners. I had to let it rest for a couple of weeks to figure out to best work with the texture. Started stitching the yellow warp threads which gives a real nice texture to the piece. I start loving it. If it would just not be so time consuming..........

Finished Shawl

Love how the shawl turned out, very playful its color and texture. It feels good, didn't shrink as much as I thought it would. Material is cotton and cotton/linen blend. Isn't it interesting how different the color looks, determined by the light. The soft pink border and fringes make a nice finish for the shawl.

Wonderful weekend spent on my loom

Gaia is holding my seat while I get ready of doing all my chores before I sit down to weave.

Had to take the pattern out, it was to busy with the yarn. Decided on a plain weave and interact with blue yarn to get a streak of "artsy" into it.

Fine Habu Merino wool shawl Part 2

I can't believe it, I am finally weaving the shawl.
It takes forever with the fine yarn.
And then the breaking of the warp........
Right now it looks more like a checked tablecloth then a fancy wedding shawl.
But it will pucker together when it comes off the loom and after washing.

Yellow and blue piece

I tied on to the red, white, black piece, changed the tie up and weave it now in blue, green tones with yellow plastic. It looks good and so much easier to weave on my counter balance loom with the new tie up.
Can't wait to see how it forms when I take it off.

Gaia to the rescue

You wake me up from my nap on your soft shawl which you left spread out on your worktable after doing the fringes - and complain! Don't you know I am a cat with taste and love to sleep on soft bamboo yarn and don't care that it is your shawl!    This is what Gaia would say, if she could speak in words.
