Slaying the reed

Last night I sled the reed. I double counted to make sure I had the right amounts of ends in each color. But then the next obstacle presented itself or I should have thought of it earlier.
I realized that I had dyed part of the warp which changes the shrinkage compared to the white which hadn't been washed and will shrink more....... The consequence would have been to wash the white warp as well before slaying the loom. But did I take it out? No, I am taking my chances to see what will happen and see if it really makes a big difference. Since I am going to weave 6 panels - if this one doesn't turn out, I replace it weave 7 instead. We'll see.
And I am sure I find more things which I haven't considered and should have..........
Live and learn!

Loom for Summer Semester at SSA

For the summer semester I use a small loom, 8 harness again at SSA.
It is in the beginner's class. This semester there aren't any students, just another weaver and me, nice and quiet.
Today I finished the warp, counted heddles on all 8 harnesses, supplied more where needed.
Determined a weaving pattern from Handwoven 1997 issue which I still had.
Next week the sleying of the reed will start........not looking forward to it, have 572 ends to do.
But it has to be done. Still think the sage looks to strong.
Maybe I weave just with white to soften it down or maybe it will look really good - who knows. We cross the bridge when we get to it.

curtain measurements, 1 panel:

24 inches wide by 4 ft long
2.25 in sage plain weave  -  9 in white pattern - 1.5 in sage plain weave - 9 in white pattern - 2.25 in sage plain weave

54 ends - 216 ends - 36 ends - 216 ends - 54 ends

in order to make the pattern work:
56 ends - 220 ends - 36 ends - 220 ends - 56 ends
only 23.75 inches but it should be enough.....

Dyed cotton/ linen

for my curtains which I will put on my loom next week.
Want to have just some color in mostly white curtain emphasizing the design.
Should not have dyed the yarn in a bucket. The color isn't even at all. But maybe it will look interesting. If I don't like it, I weave plain white curtains in hucklace.
