Boxing Day Weaving

Best place for my loom, next to the tree and the other side the dog asleep.
Handspun, dyed bast fibers and native fibers woven into an art piece

Can't wait to take my pieces off the loom.

Christmas Project

This christmas, I gave myself a gift.
The gift of time, not to cook, entertain or rush around but to stay inside, enjoying the christmas tree next to my loom and weave. This was my first project which I started Christmas Eve:
Weaving with hand dyed and spun bast fibers and sticks

Handwoven Towels

I finished my towels which I wove in tabby and 2/2 high twill.
I used the same tie up with different treading options for the patterns.
Quite please with the outcome, was surprise to see how much they shrunk, when I washed them and put them in the dryer.

Origami Wreath

Last night at our weaving class at SSA, we made origami wreath. You need 12 pages, so they will look very pretty if you reuse your old calendar. I will have to try it in January. Hopefully, I haven't forgotten how to make it.

And here is the end result. We used origami paper:

Started weaving my kitchen curtains. Had to make some adjustments to the pattern but like it.
It will be interesting how the center comes out.....
This goes really fast with my End delivery shuttle. Love it!

started out with old cotton rug

used a brush to paint the dye on
this on with stripes
after a day, I had to rinse them out
after washing machine & dryer to set the color
dog loves this one.....

Towel

Towel from cotton and linen
Having some crazy pink, red, rose warp left over from my last 2 sock yarn blankets, I decided to weave a towel. I have great looking red/white cotton/linen and found a pattern I liked. But as you can see the pattern disappears in the colorful warp. Later on, I will put a simple white warp on and then repeat the pattern. Will post later on my last finished pieces woven on my loom at home. Wishing I could just weave......

Can't stop weaving curtains

Next pair are for my kitchen. The pattern is: Swedish Lace.
I decided I prefer the 4 harness loom. Less mistakes to be made then on a 8 harness loom.
I wanted to finish these curtains before christmas but now I doubt that will happen.
Last night I was opening up mistakes again and rethreading........
You see the stripe in the middle - didn't want to rethread, so I just changed the pattern a bit. It is in the center and can be seen as the pattern and not a mistake. These I weave at SSA.

Hucklace Curtains, woven with Cotlin

I posted some photos last night but didn't show how beautiful they look during the day from the inside and outside.  They go so well with our old house.Still so very pleased:

Texas my Texas

Do you ever wonder about the place you live, have lived for the past 25 yrs?
I did. I wondered what was Texas once, things I can relate to.
Most people think of ranches and oil.
I think of cotton fields......
Jeans which were manufactured in Huntsville prison,
slogan: Don't mess with Texas....just had to weave with plastic
and feathers....people coming into this vast state from all over the world like birds......

Finished my first curtain panel today

no picture, but believe me it is as beautiful as when it was on the loom.
Pinned it up in the wall, next to my loom.
Now the tricky part, to make sure the second panel turns out exactly as the first one......

Schacht 15" End-Delivery Shuttle

Just look at these salvages with my new shuttle. Highly recommend the End-Delivery Shuttle, worth every penny. My salvages are as good as they will ever get, thanks to the shuttle.
And weaving goes so fast. I wove 20 inches tonight on my curtain. Very impressive. If you have to do several curtain panels, this makes a difference.
Pattern again huck lace.

2nd try on curtainn weaving

Second try to weave dinning room curtain. I like how airy these look.
And please look at my new shuttle, let's see if it does what it says.
Will start hucklace on Thursday night.
Had to create some more heddles tonight where I made threading errors.
What looks even better then my weaving - my heddles - I am an expert!

Finished Rug from newspaper plastic Liners

finished rug
I love it. It feels good to walk on it and the rug stays well on wooden floors, doesn't move.
What a fun project - many things to improve but pleased in the overall concept.

Plain Weave with Newspaper plastic Liners

For about a year now, I collected the plastic liners which come around the daily newspaper.
They were nice and thin. This weekend I finally started weaving with them. I did not want to cut them up, but realized soon that I needed to slice them horizontal to get a long piece of plastic .
My idea was to weave a plastic outdoor rug, 30 x 60 inches.

washed curtain, pinned up

curtain panel hanging

I like the huck lace pattern, wish it would be woven more open. The green/sage stripes are to strong, make it look like a kitchen towel. So what am I going to do? Back to the drawing board, forget about this panel and start over again.
I learned a lot about weaving curtains. Now lets see if I learn from my mistakes and improve the next one.

This was a very productive day. I had fun weaving, designs came easy.
I wonder what comes next and how the piece will look like when it comes off the loom.

...and some more sock yarn weaving.......

like the insert, wanted to bring it together equaled the stripe in the center not only in warp but in weft horizontally
wanted to continue the insert weaving, love the look and feel of the hand dyed silk, had to take a brake to think where I am going, but quiet please how I work every night a little bit , very soothing.
